BusinessTrends joins run to save Pasig River

November 2011

BusinessTrends joins the largest fundraising and advocacy run to save the Pasig River as part of its major corporate social responsibility program for 2011.

With over 80,000 participants who joined the event, BusinessTrends employees had given their share of rehabilitating the once ecologically- healthy river which passes through the urban areas of the metropolis.

This activity has long been planned and prepared for by the Sales and Marketing Team. Ms. ClaudeM. Mallillin, Sales and Marketing Head, expressed her ultimate joy and excitement in staging the activity for the whole BusinessTrends team as this is the first major CSR activity that the company has joined. According to her, it was a pleasure and an accomplishment for the entire company to finally implement the activity and everyone was glad to have done it very well.

With the success of the first CSR event, everyone is already looking forward to having more CSR programs to be implemented in the future that mainly focus on core problems of the country: Environment, Education and Employment.

The company, after more than 12 years, attained its first CSR activity in lieu with the growing team and business. The event has provided an avenue for all employees to bond and savor the moment of saving the river together.

The 42-member team ran for the 3-kilometer dash along Roxas Boulevard and EDSA extension, two of the major roads in Manila and Pasay cities. The organizers signaled the start of the run at 4:45 AM. The whole event was completed at around 11:00 AM.

The Pasig River is one of the major rivers in the Philippines and, together with Manila Bay and Laguna de Bay, forms the most important natural water system in Metro Manila. The influx of population brought about by industrialization and urbanization of Metro Manila resulted in the transformation of Pasig River into a sewage and industrial effluents depot.

With this, the fundraising and advocacy run to save Pasig River is a catalyst program for rehabilitating the river for future generations.
